A TV commercial for the Canadian brand of cough syrup Benilyn. I was in charge of 2 shots that explained that:
- The product is ivy based
- It clears the lungs of mucus
↑ A few sample of the art direction board. Rendering a stylized yet believable lung needed a few iterations. The bronchi couldn’t be modeled in 3D space like the real thing: the glass look did not allow it. I went for a 2D/3D curve approach instead of a procedural one.
The commercial required a delicate balance between scientific accuracy and visual appeal. The final design needed to effectively communicate the product’s benefits while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing look that would work well in a TV commercial format.
Technical challenges included:
- Creating a transparent, glass-like effect for the lung structure that remained clear and readable
- Developing a visually appealing way to show the ivy-based formula’s interaction with mucus
- Maintaining brand consistency while pushing creative boundaries in medical visualization
The project successfully delivered both shots on time, effectively communicating the product’s key benefits through stylized yet scientifically-informed 3D visualization.
